Q: How can glutathione + lipoic acid detoxify alcohol?

A: During the metabolic process of alcohol, a substance that is more toxic than alcohol itself, acetaldehyde, is produced. When alcohol is broken down in the liver by an enzyme called dehydrogenase, acetaldehyde is produced. The acetaldehyde will then be broken down by an enzyme called acetaldehyde dehydrogenase, and another substance called glutathione. When there is not enough glutathione substance in the liver, it can cause one to easily get drunken.
